Take Your Look From Work To Play In 5 Minutes FLAT!

It’s Friday and tonight you’re going out on a date or hitting the clubs with your girlfriends or maybe going out for drinks with your colleagues. Thing is, you’ve still got work to finish and probably will only be home after 8pm. There’s no time to completely remove your makeup and start over from scratch. Fret not, however, as Emmagem has some tips for you that will take your makeup from day to night!

#1 – Change Your Lipcolour

Pastel, almost-nude pinks and beiges are great for daytime, but at night, these colours do nothing to flatter your look. Amp up the sexy factor with a bold lipcolour. When we say bold, we don’t necessarily mean bright – it can be a quirky shade of violet, traffic-stopping red or even sultry burgundy. For all the crazy outfits and makeup sported by Nicki Minaj, we have to give it to her: her lipstick choices are pretty spot-on. Well, except for the time when she wore bright yellow lipstick.

Maximum visual effect with minimum effort.

How to:

  1. Remove any leftover lipstick/lipgloss from the day with a clean piece of tissue. Chances are, your lips will be a bit flaky by now.
  2. Slick on a generous layer of lipbalm and gently buff lips with the tissue to remove any flaky bits.
  3. Wipe off any excess lipbalm and apply a fresh coat of bold lipstick.
  4. For a strong look, swipe onto lips directly from the tube.
  5. For a stained look, use your fingertips to apply the lipstick.

#2 – Pile On The Eyeliner

Forget about the smoky eye; it’s going to take forever to get right. If you’re pressed for time, just go with dark eyeliner. However, make sure your eyeliner is properly sharpened beforehand – nothing is worse than jagged eyeliner that drags unevenly across your lids. Enhancing your eyes with eyeliner makes them sexier, and you can do this right over your existing eye makeup, which by now has probably melted into oblivion.

Keep your skin dewy and powder-free.

How to:

  1. Remove smudges underneath your eyes with a cotton bud. Use it to clean up any excess oil on your upper eyelids.
  2. Draw on eyeliner, flicking the ends upwards and outwards for a cat-eye (you can make it as subtle or as dramatic as you like).
  3. Layer on a matching shade of powder eyeshadow to seal in the look and make it last the entire night.
  4. It doesn’t have to be too clean or neat, but make sure you fill in any sparse gaps.

#3 – Highlight Your Facial Contours

Dim lighting can make your face appear more tired, so here’s a nifty trick: use cream or stick highlighter to emphasise your bone structure. The best texture to choose is a pearly shade without flecks of glitter in them – that way, you won’t look like a disco ball, but the micro-particles of shimmer still reflect light and make your complexion glow.

Take it from the queens of contouring!

How to:

  1. Wipe off day-old foundation with a wet tissue, or use a piece of tissue dampened with water.
  2. Reapply concealer wherever needed but leave the rest of the face bare.
  3. Apply cream or stick highlighter on the following areas: forehead, browbones, nose bridge, cheekbones, cupid’s bow and tip of chin.
  4. Use your fingertips to buff the highlighter so it blends seamlessly with your skin.
  5. Finish with a light dusting of pressed powder all over face and neck.
  6. You can even use the highlighter on your collarbones, shoulders and cleavage.
